What happens when a strong leader leaves — and the team underneath them is not ready?

The gap reveals more than a missing title. It tells you what was not being developed, delegated or documented. AVID can help assess the bench, define what capability is missing and plan the hire before urgency decides for you.
Urgency is a poor recruiter
When a strong leader leaves and there is no obvious successor, the organization often panics. The first available candidate who looks credible gets fast-tracked. I have watched that work out, but more often it produces a mismatch that surfaces six months later.
Assess before you search
Sometimes the answer is internal development. Sometimes it is external search. Often it is both. AVID helps leaders look at the team honestly: who is ready now, who could be ready with support, and what external capability will be required either way.
Plan the hire, not just the replacement
Succession planning is not a departure plan. It is about building organizational strength. That means thinking through the role, the relationships, the decision rights and the first-year outcomes before the search ever starts.
