How do you know when you have outgrown a role — or simply need something to change?

Not every difficult season means it is time to leave. But when your value is consistently underused, growth has stopped or alignment is gone, it may be time to look closely at what you need next.
Distinguish between a season and a pattern
Every role has hard stretches. The question is whether the hard stretch is temporary or whether it reflects a deeper mismatch. If your skills are underused, your growth has stalled and your values no longer fit the work, that is a pattern worth paying attention to.
A candid conversation is often the best first step
Before deciding to leave, have the conversation you are hoping will change things. Sometimes the role can evolve. Sometimes the conversation confirms that it cannot. Either way, you move with clarity rather than restlessness.
Know what you are moving toward, not just away from
AVID helps candidates get clear on what they want more of — responsibility, impact, balance, growth, culture — so the next move is a step toward something, not just an escape from something.
